Ainsworth is the county seat of Brown County and was incorporated as a village in 1883, later developing into a bustling railroad town, attracting pioneering ranchers, businessmen, and, later, farmers as the county became developed. The famous Nebraska Sandhills are to the south and west of town and provide fantastic scenery and peaceful, serene countryside. The Niobrara River is just 20 minutes north of Ainsworth and Pine Creek is eight miles east. Tubing and canoeing are favorite summer activities in addition to a beautiful golf course just seven minutes away. Ainsworth offers a wide range of services including department stores, local pharmacies, medical and hospital services, and a very active and welcoming senior center and school system.
